top 10 in wins over last three years, won a round last year, missed playoffs by a point this year and were top 5 in wins from after replacing the coach. Isles are actually a good team. Toronto hasnt done anything and beat out isles by one point in to get to playoffs

The Leafs cannot afford taking on Tavares while keeping Marner, Matthews, and Nylander under contract and also make the necessary improvements on defense, can they?

Pittsburgh proved that if you have two superstar centers and decent goaltending you don't need much else.

The last 3 yrs didn't win the ISLES a cup. TORONTO is full of playoff success potential, the ISLES are on the downfall, again, sadly. I wished they weren't but there is something seriously wrong with that franchise and Super JT can't fix it alone.

Well you don't have to follow their model. You don't want to have to trade Marner and/or Nylander because you can't afford them. Tavares is going to cost you 10 mil+ easy.

i don't see that being true....but time will tell i guess. the isls have a lot of talent waiting to break into the nhl. whether they are able to take the next step is the biggest question. the leafs had 5 rookies last yr that had great yrs all at the same time. that isn't likely to happen again this year for those players. and TO still lacks that D

Pitsburg had superstar winger in kessel and superstar dman in letang. They also had to number one goalies. Out of no where dman in schutlz who put up crazy points and rookies breaking records. You need more then two superstar centers. and they can not afford all of them and dman.

Yep, it's Leafs fans that are the problem with these rumours. Nothing to do with bloggers and media. We're the delusional ones.

i don't see that being true....but time will tell i guess. the isls have a lot of talent waiting to break into the nhl. whether they are able to take the next step is the biggest question. the leafs had 5 rookies last yr that had great yrs all at the same time. that isn't likely to happen again this year for those players. and TO still lacks that D

You have Barzal, Beavillier, Ho Sang, Pullock. I'm familiar. They're great for sure, but Toronto is completely stacked in the prospect pool. Bracco, Kapanen, Liljegren among others even on top of the big three.

I completely disagree with what you said about the rookies. Matthews, Marner and Nylander are that good, if not even better. Are you not also concerned about Lee having a career year?

Sure replace a whole line with one player that will make your team better.

Im not saying Tavares is coming to Tronto at all

But I think it's obvious that he would strongly consider Toronto if he were to leave NY. and the interest would be mutual obviously.

The kids haven't even signed yet...lets see what they get signed to. Maybe they take discounts. Maybe they don't.

Maybe they sign Nylander and Marner to 8 year deals early for around 6 million. They are all getting 950k right now. And until they sign no fans can predict who they can or can't afford.
